But I like the convenience of digital and have been steadily reducing my vinyl collection. Still, it sounded good and was on quiet vinyl. The only disc where there is a fair argument for 1987 for me is Revolver, where the bass may be a tad overdone in spots.Īlso, as surmised, my MFSL was a "thin" disc not UHQR. But it is not the only choice because 2009 is readily available. I sure would rather have the black triangle over the 1987 versions if that was my only choice. Please let me categorically state that I like the 2009 versions, 16 bit andf 24 bit ahead of the 1987 versions. Plus my ears tell me that 24 bit versions are done very well.īy the way somebody brought up the 1987 versions in response to one of my other posts. I could entertain the opposite the 24 bit files were peak limited to derive the 16 bit file. Why for heavens sake would an engineer compress a file for 24 bits which has much more headroom available. That sounds "authoritative" but also questionable. So technically different a different mastering, even though they all may come from the same digital source files. For the 2012 Vinyl reissue programm they used 24bit files without the peak limiting. By the way, these 24bit files from the USB Stick are in fact the CD Masters for the 2009 reissue campain for CD with peak limiting applied.
